Inner Child Healing Exercise - Heal Your Inner Child In Minutes (Try This)

We all have an inner child begging to be healed. It is the part deep within us that carries all of the negative memories and experiences from our childhood.

It is, in essence, an accumulation of past pain.

This inner child often surfaces when we are triggered by something or someone in a way that resembles what happened in our past. As soon as this negative experience is activated we tend to act out, just like we did when it first occurred.

In our earliest & most vulnerable childhood years, we start to develop our ‘self concept’ & ‘identity’. This can be shaped by our environment, the messaging we receive from those around us, sensory experiences & so much more.

So, why do I need to heal my inner child?

The reason we want to work on healing our inner child is because if we don't, we are basically letting our five-year-old selves run the show.

And as Manifestation Coach I often see how much this affects someone’s ability to manifest and attract what they want into their lives.

So many of us want to live fulfilling, abundant, energetically aligned lives & this is a bit tricky to do that when your wounded five-year-old self is constantly in triggered tantrum mode!

As an adult, it is important to realize & recognise that you are in control. You are no longer that child feeling out of control, unloved & unseen. You are in the driver's seat & have total autonomy over your beautiful, abundant life.

In this post I’ll be sharing a simple yet powerful inner child healing exercise that you can use to start healing your inner child in minutes.

But first, what is inner child healing?

What Is Inner Child Healing

Caring for your inner child has a powerful and surprisingly quick result: Do it and the child heals.”- Martha Beck

Healing & soothing our inner child is really important for us to live our most beautiful, most abundant, most fulfilling lives as the empowered adults that we are!

Inner child healing is essentially excavating those deepest parts of us & making those parts feel safe, validated & seen. It focuses on releasing & freeing the accumulated pain, so that we are no longer as deeply triggered by things & can react in an empowered, rational way.

This in turn, changes our energy and vibration and frees up space to manifest more of what we want in our lives, rather than what we don’t want.

Inner Child Healing Example

Now, let me take you back to a time when my inner-child was triggered so I can demonstrate how I started to quickly heal and release this energy…

My husband David and I were going for our morning walk when he mentioned a concert he might be going to without me!

Now, usually this is no big deal as we are both very independent and often do things on our own, but this time, my inner child was triggered.

All of a sudden I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. Thoughts rushed into my head like: What about me? You’re not inviting me to this event?

But rather than get caught up in the emotion and accompanying thoughts, I recognised my inner child had been activated and brought my conscious awareness to it.

The greater part of me could then see that this past pain was from an event in my childhood where I felt like I had been left out!

So rather than react to David I simply turned to him and said: “I feel left out”.

I then imagined my six-year-old self, the one who had been left out, and I hugged her.

I felt every part of me hugging her and telling her that I'm sorry she feels left out and I love her.

After continuing to do this for 10 minutes the pain in my stomach disappeared and the thoughts vanished.

By doing this simple exercise I managed to clean up my vibration and prevent my inner child from having a tantrum over something that didn't matter to my adult self at all.

The result?

My relationship is stronger and I no longer get triggered the same way.

How YOU can Start Healing Our Inner Child

Remember the story I just shared with you?

Let’s delve a little further into some inner child healing techniques & exercises. Here are 4 helpful & healing steps to get you started on your inner child work.

Remember…

When we feel that deep sting of triggering, it can be easy to judge it & to judge ourselves.

This harshness will not help at all and will push the pain deeper and deeper and make your inner child feel even more unseen.

Inner Child HEALING EXERCISE

Step one:

Acknowledgement. To truly heal and move on, we must first acknowledge and give validation to the experiences and the pain we feel. Without acknowledgement, we simply cannot start the process. What you resist, persists. It’s about laying it all out on the table, seeing it for what it really is, acknowledging how it really makes you feel

Remember, your inner child is begging to be seen, heard, validated and loved. Acknowledgement is the first, brave step.

Step two:

Be kind, be compassionate and be loving to yourself (and your inner child).

Imagine a child in front of you, or better yet, YOU as a child in front of you.

What would you say?

What tone would you take?

How would you look at them?

By doing this inner child healing exercise, we can really create a powerful healing visual imprint in our minds.

Step 3:

Write a letter to your inner child. This is an incredibly powerful & potent exercise for your inner child healing journey.

Really tune in. Really listen. What does your inner child want to hear?

What does your inner child need to hear?

Write it all out. You will be surprised how soothing, cathartic & deeply restorative this inner child healing exercise can be.

Step four:

Affirmations for healing your inner child

Affirmations are real powerhouses. They’re an exceptionally dynamic & energetically powerful device, which can really work wonders. The important thing to remember with affirmations is that they need to resonate with you.

Your brain will be less likely to take them on board & ‘believe’ them, if they don’t resonate with you. We are gently suggesting these new thoughts to your brain & we are not ‘forcing’ or ‘imposing’ anything.

Healing is never about forcing. We are opening up space & allowing the healing energy to come in.

Affirmations are best utilized when you are relaxed & your mind is in a more ‘suggestive’ state. Right before bed, or when you’ve just woken up are often good windows of time.

You can of course, say them whenever you like, or feel called to. Just try to take a few, cleansing breaths & drop into that meditative, relaxed state, so that your brain is more open to accepting these suggestions.

Keep in mind we’re being compassionate, gentle & loving to our inner child, so tenderly & considerately repeat these affirmations to yourself.

Feel free to play around with the wording to find the right ‘fit’ for you, but here are some affirmations to get you started;
